Course costs and membership of the Australian Track and Field Coaches Association are covered by the Centre.
Weekly coaching sessions are on Wednesdays during the season at the Banks Oval starting on 21 October and are each Wednesday of school term from 5.30pm until 7.00pm. See the Calendar page.
We will again be offering the On Track program for our U6 Age Groups. Please Click Here to download the information on what it is and how it will work at Lanyon.
Our emphasis with all coaching will be to reinforce our club motto of family, fun and fitness.
Family – parents and carers are great coaches, who can encourage and support their children in developing and displaying their athletic skills. We encourage all parents and carers to find out about the disciplines their children are learning, talk to the coaches, get some coaching points, help with the coaching we are always happy to give feedback.
Fun – coaching involves learning and having fun at the same time – our weekly training sessions will combine both. Other fun activities that help with skills will be posted on the Coaches page to have a go at during the week or off-season.
Fitness – this means both being physically able to compete at a child’s top athletic potential as well as being fitted or equipped with the right skills to compete. Young people need to work on their fitness all the time, not just in training sessions. Being active is generally enough. Our coaches can give pointers on building fitness for specific disciplines for those who are interested, but we will be mostly concentrating on building well-rounded athletes who can do all the disciplines, both track and field, to their best ability.
Training Squads – some of our athletes are keen to concentrate on a specific discipline. We are able to provide specific more detailed and intensive coaching for these athletes. If you are interested in specific coaching in relays, sprints (100m, 200m, 400m), middle distance running (800m/1500m), jumps (high jump, long jump, triple jump),or throws (shot put, discus, javelin), email our coaches at coaches@lla.org.au
On-line Coaching – do you have questions about athletics, need some pointers about techniques, want to know how to improve a skill, just email coaches@lla.org.au and one of our coaches with the right knowledge and experience will get back to you. You can also post a message on our on-line coaching forum.
Other Coaching Resources – Our coaches have access to many resources in the ACT that can help with athletics. This includes access to the Australian Academy of Sport Library and the Athletics ACT resources. Our accredited coaches can also have access to advice about coaching issues from the Australia-wide network of Little Athletics, Seniors and representative coaches.
